Almost all of the smelter, and mill is gone, victim of economics i guess. The mine is still there, big, and growing ever bigger. One of these years, i'll go back and see this for myself someday. The place was nothing more than old, abandoned mine structures, the skeleton of an old smelter, setteling tanks, and slag dumps.

A friend i went to high school with tells me that Morenci is almost like a ghost town, streets i knew growing up were all but deserted, even the name of the company that owns the mine has changed, and many of the people i was aquainted with has moved away.
