Exploring Centennial campus

Although the day didn't start out on a good foot (my request for permission to photograph inside the Regal Constellation hotel was denied by the owners) - things improved a short while later when I met up with ExKalibur in Scarborough and we were able to get full access to the closed Centennial College campus at Warden Woods.

We found an unlocked door around the back of the building and entered the school. As we made our way through the hallways, we found the majority of the classroom and office doors locked - although we found a couple open here and there. One of the larger lecture halls was open, and we stopped for a short while to scrawl our aliases in chalk on the blackboards. The entire campus still had hydro service, so we were able to turn lights on wherever we went. Even the phones still had dialtones!

One of the more unusual rooms we got access to was one that had a pair of one-way viewing windows that looked into two adjoining rooms on each side, some sort of observation area - perhaps used for psychology studies of some sort. We weren't sure. The area almost resembled a police interrogation room.

The gymnasium was interesting - Exkalibur flipped a switch on the wall and fired up power to the overhead scoreboard and clock. Unfortunately we weren't able to find the keypad to change the numbers, so we continued on. We made our way to some maintenance areas on the lower level and from there got access to the underground areas beneath the main floor. That area was rather funky, seeing all the mounds of dirt they'd put the support pilons into and all the junk that was stored in there (old desks, chairs, metal doors, metal building studs and other assorted stuff). We also noticed some asbestos-insulated piping overhead in the underground areas.

Eventually we found our way to the cafeteria and checked out a half dozen tables piled high with all the old telephones - hundreds of them! We also snooped around in the kitchen area, checking out the grills, microwaves and walk-in freezers (still filled with really stinky food and garbage).

Hmm...let's see, what else. Oh, we stopped for a while at a coffee cafe we found in one of the hallways. Played with the cash register awhile (it still worked), bought ourselves each a MinuteMaid orange drink outta the vending machines (they were warmer than room temperature, so we ran them under some cold water in the cafe sink for a few minutes to try and cool them down a bit).

Overall the place was quite interesting. We found some student records stored in boxes in a few storage areas. A few computer monitors here and there. A paper-cutting guillotine beside a drill press in one room. Marveled at some of the truly awful colour schemes of walls and lockers (pink and pale green, yay). The entire place was very clean, the floors polished and spotless. It was just too bad so many of the doors were locked. My kingdom for a master key. Would've been great to access more of the labs and stuff.
