Maybe its because NYS wasn't getting enough tourists from CO... all CO's fault! :-p After the 50's and the 60's, NYC residents just stopped vacationing in upstate NY like they used to, and the I<3NY tourism campaign didn't start until after NY tourism was really in decline. I think the fact of the matter is that it would have taken a tremendous amount of money to re-establish this gem as a money-making resort, a business venture that had a really small likelihood of having any return. NYS conservation has an annoying habit of picking up properties that are already pretty far down the road to decline.
