That keyboard is an IBM Model M. Solid keyboard, built like a tank. You could drop it off a building and it would still work. Sadly, vandals are it's weakness...

Tin of cookies, name escapes me.

Shame about that keyboard. I'd trade in my cheap-shit Logitech for a pre-1990 IBM any day. They had a most satisfying 'clack' and a rock solid feel to them.

i had an IBM XT keyboard... at speed, it sounded like satisfying machine gun fire.

these cheapie keyboards can't compare.

Ahh, I miss the XT keyboard, you knew you pressed the key, and it had a huge coiled cord that meant business. I'd bet that they could handle a liquid spill and not give a damn.

They could. I shit you not. I took one apart once. Each switch was surrounded by a kind of 'cup' that extended up into the key cap above. A moderate spill would just flow down to the front of the keyboard and out some holes in the bottom. If I had know how cheap and lousy stuff was going to get I would've hung onto mine. You might still be able to find one in a surplus store (if you're lucky).

All I probably have to do is look in my parent's basement, I kid you not, the junk my dad keeps around is plentiful. He still has some off the shelf cheap r/c car toy I destroyed and took apart. When am I ever going to mess with it again? I'm pretty sure he still has the XT and I do remember it as you described, the keys were fun to pull up.

Hang onto that stuff if you can. Anything of decent North American build quality is quickly becoming a museum piece.

As I recall, that particular keyboard had a metal shell, didn't it? So it was nice and hefty, and felt bulletproof. And yes, I liked the clacky keys too! ;-)
