It does look good, but a bit dangerous too. Are all the silo openings etc. well covered? I might visit it one day if I'm in the area.

This building is very very safe. All the silos have at least a grate over the opening, if not a lid as well. Send me a message for entry instructions: this place has a live scrapyard and pet food store in its grounds. The railway line is not fun. All it would take is one look at someone running near the tracks, and the train driver will radio for the transport police. But, for all its risks, it is a great building, with tons of stuff in. The basement is especialy cool.

I'll send you a message if I'm going to be in the Oxfordshire area. I doubt the transport police are too much of a problem, actually. If you knew that a train might have seen you, you should have time to get away or at least hide before the police arrive. I once got caught by transport police in Southampton (well, a train driver told them, so they didn't actually see me in the act). When the police came over they were pretty annoyed, but I said nothing and pretended to be sorry and that was it.

Somthing about train tracks scare me. I just cant relax near train tracks. Probably linked to the "train tracks are dangerous" stuff thats hammered into us at a young age.

Or maybe the thought of a few hundred tons of freight train hurtling towards you at 50mph?
Posted by Corvid 10/15/2005 10:47 PM | remove
I don't mind the ones that go at 50! On the way to the Shipton Cement works, we had to walk about a kilometer on two high speed train tracks, as we had to take a ladder in, and this was the only route that we would not arouse suspicion. Blueshiva did not notice the sound of the high speed train until I pointed it out. What made it worse was that we were walking across a bridge that has almost no clearance between the railings and the train! As soon as I heard it I shouted to get off the line. Whithin secnds the train was on us, and bloody hell was it going fast! I don't know how fast trains can go, but 120mph seems about right for this train. I was only a few feet from the side of the train when it shot past, and the shockwave felt like it was going to throw me off the bridge. When the back of the train rushed past I was pulled against the fence. After that experiance, we certainly had much more respect for trains. Being hit by a train like that would be certain death.

Unfortunatly the silos are now to dangerous to enter, as the asbestos removal has contaminated most of the building.
