The only real edifice left from the macyntire ere mine of the 1840's (besides the Mcnaughton cottage). It's awesome, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a similar piece of equipment anywhere in the country of this age, although I'm onto some in the Sacandaga res region. There was no mortar used in its' construction. PW; My Mom got me that Stoddard book fro Xmas; awesome. The book was written in 1870 or so, and here the author is UE'ing this very place! 130 years ago! Wow! Highly reccomended , although I'll admit to paging right up to the Tahawus reference and reading that first!

do yourself a favor when the snow is gone (sometime in July by the look of things this week) and climb inside this thing. It is amazing!!!! You have to go in the side opposite the road... it's worth it.

I would love to climb to the top sometime and get a look at the pipes and brickwork up there, but I don't do so well with heights. Would be fun if the ramp from the opposite hill was rebuilt!

I wanted to get to the top too when I was there....but I figured that if I was successful in making it to the top, it would be 100x harder to get back down, and I wanted to spare myself of the embarassment of having to call the fire dept. to rescue me :)
