Description
Those flies seen on the book and just above it aren't dead - they're just sleeping. When I moved the book I woke them up. They groggily started to awaken, no doubt having been interrupted right in the middle of a very powerful fly dream. Come springtime, these flies will fully re-awaken, to land on some inevitable future dog poo. I helped one of the awakening flies roll over as he couldn't flip himself off his back. That was my good deed of the day.

Apparently in abandoned homes, it's warm enough for flies and ladybugs to "hibernate" til Spring. We saw these flies and assumed they were all dead. But we prodded them and sure enough they slowly woke up...

I had always thought a flies life was 3 days. I was wrong. I never knew flies hibernated, apparently they do.

Dr. Ann Faraday, this book was published twice once in 72 and again in 97 this to me looks like the 1997 version. Some one must have dreamt about a near death experience and awoke from it, this book explains all that stuff.
