When I moved the book I woke them up. They groggily started to awaken, no doubt having been interrupted right in the middle of a very powerful fly dream. Come springtime, these flies will fully re-awaken, to land on some inevitable future dog poo. I helped one of the awakening flies roll over as he couldn't flip himself off his back. That was my good deed of the day. We saw these flies and assumed they were all dead. But we prodded them and sure enough they slowly woke up...
