I'm too young to really understand what this huge piece of machinery is. Apparantly it plays music or something. But why would you need such a large piece of furniture when my MP3 player is like the size of someone's thumb? Oh right...the olden days...:P

Well, the unit wasn't all machinery, scarlett. It held a record player (vinyl is really popular today even) and the amp/tuner among other things like maybe an 8-track player. The rest was storage space for records and what not.

lets not forget the speakers. those are most likely 3 way speakers. most of the ones from the 50's to 80's ive seen were 3-way.
