slightly reminiscent of the Maginot Line or the bunkers of Normandy, may tell you a little about the Monkey Ward marketing mentality, they continued to live on at this location even after the smaller shops were dying, probably because of the financing operations where po' folks could buy a vaccum cleaner on installments for 36 months
etc...
now Big Town convention center hosts the second largest gunshow in the DFW area; hammertime!

As a former employee at this store, it was my understanding that this Montgomery Ward, Store #1618,was one of the top total sales stores in the company. I knew of one employee who was due for retirement around the time the company folded. Makes me wonder if past retirees or those on the verge of retiring got any severence type packages. Sad if they did not.

I believe this store had the same store manager for almost 30 yrs. Won't state his name, but initials were J. C. Hope he is doing well.

Again, notice the sets of doors on the left "covered/blocked off " This neighborhood is not good.

This neighborhood comes complete with a Buckner's Children's Home just across the street. There are some apartments on the corner that were almost complete, then abandoned for 10 years, then finally completed. The tenants aren't what you might call good citizens, many a shooting has taken place in that complex, despite it's 'gated community' look.

This wall is all that's left of Big Town Mall as of 9/7/06. The movie theater is coming down, Farmers Market has already been torn down and the south wall of Montgomery Ward is all that's left of the mall.

What makes Dallas so dangerous is that the gangs aren't as destructive of property as they are in other cities. You don't know whether your in a bad neighborhood or not because the graffitti and vandalism is relatively nonexistent.
