This would make a good weight to have in the back of a pickup truck for a snowy winter driving. My guess is that it was one of the auger power supplies.

it's either a very early (1930's) open frame electric motor or same time frame generator. A museum piece to be sure, likely weighs 300-400lbs with lots of very valuable copper windings inside.
