Description
Quick digital study for a black and white film photo. This bizarre construct is a light fixture above the door to the pumphouse. It looks fairly old in design style, and it's been beaten out of shape by the local neds.

Well, I *do* live in the UK. :)

But it's a good term and it should be exported (I'm working on it). There are ned equivalents everywhere.

Neds was previously an unknown term any further than Carlisle.

Now... International NED stardom. :-D

How long ago? It's in pretty common use in Edinburgh.

Perfect. Now, what we need is a 'NED' branding iron. We can go around and assert the trademark. The Greek ones are harder to tell from their Scottish counterparts.

I would think it would be in common use in Edinburgh... Newcastle ? Not so!

That branding iron is a good idea, but just look for the dirty white shell suit - the mark of a true NED.

  I think I'm missing something here, what's a 'NED'?

  It's in the Encyclopedia.

It stands for 'non-educated delinquent' and if you've lived in the UK you'd know the type instantly. They're the sworn nemesis of every urban explorer in these parts.

I like to think they also make some of the explorations more interesting though (e.g. by breaking down doors and windows, then getting arrested and leaving an easy, legal point of entry).

I agree. Best feature of that whole site. They don't make them like that any more. :)

Just for reference, my cop friend used the term ned here at least ten years ago, if not more. I live in Bermuda...
