I appreciate how some people can't afford to renovate houses like this but I couldn't bear to take the wrecking ball to it.

They don't build them like they used to.

So unfortunate there were no buyers.

This is freaky, if you think about it. Free house.... $5,000.... the owners must be crabby, the house is haunted, or this is more than what meets the eye (in a bad way)

The owners of the property wanted to get rid of the house. They just wanted the land and couldn't care less if the house was demolished or moved. They made more from the land without the house on it so their wallets were very well satisfied.

Yeah i love the old places too. If the walls could only talk..oh the stories they would tell us. Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated!

Why can't Whitby be more like Scotland and preserve it's past, rather than tearing it down one amazing house at a time?!!

Because they make more money redeveloping properties. There was a time when Whitby did a much better job protecting their heritage. Guess that time is over now. :(
