  The gigantic barrel. I don't know what it was for; something about it suggests 'industrial-sized rock tumbler.' I love that gearing around the pipe.

  I could be wrong but it looks to me like it was used to remove the sand molds from casted parts by tumbling them.

  It's a rotary kiln. Look at the control panel and ductwork for it on the other pictures.

  yeah its a kiln you can see the drive gear motor and reducer but wheres the vat of of that tar like oil?
