Vinyl/Asbestos judging by the colour and pattern, plus the circa 60's construction.

Yummy - asbestos. Thanx Chronic. I'm just glad the material was still all in one piece - no friable pieces here.

All asbestos is safe...until friable state, yes. If you've seen old architerctural drawings from 50/60's, you'll see flooring schedules that denote "V/A" or "VAT" for Vinyl/Asbestos tiles. Nowadays its shown as VCT, for Vinyl Composite Tile.

It looks like a typical den. There should be a big spiral rug in the middle of it and a high-backed leather chair with a man in a robe smoking a pipe.

So true guys. That would make a very nice den.

I'm with you on this one, HB. After an extensive cleaning, of course. It's got really nice architecture, and it's a shame the flooring is asbestos, looks nice. Cool fireplace and built-in shelving, too.

So even back then they knew one day people would hang their flat panel tvs above their fireplaces. I swear any newer home here in central IA just has to have a fireplace and a tv above it. Sorry, don't want the fireplace.
