Haven't been by this location in years.... just out of curiousity, what is to the left of the 3rd car in the left-turning lane? I seem to remember a gas station there at one time.....

its the "lave auto du port" there is this creepy guy living in a camper on the property. it is an old gas bar, just through the tunnel to the left there is another former gazbar, it was an irving, in its final incarnation it was a crevier. the whole area from mill to the train tracks is the site of the proposed new casino, the old stocyards at the corner of mill and bridge west of bridge are a costco warehouse that will be leveled for parking from the casino

I beleive the old stockyards building will be saved. At leat, that's what I can see on the plans on www.bassinpeel.com.

I remember when the (now old Crevier) gas bar was built--I remember it being BP (British Petroleum). I remember it from about 1962. I don't know why, but for some reason that one really stuck in my mind. Someone had taken photos of the "Walk to the Stone" held each year, and the Crevier was featured in one of the shots--it still has that distinctive stone construction that I remember.

On another note, just past the intersection, on the corner to the right, there is now a warehouse or something. I can distinctly remember my uncle taking me to a tavern located on that corner when I was about 5 or 6. I can almost picture the place--it's probably been gone now for at least 35-40 years.

the old crevier couldnt have been a BP, i have blue prints when my uncle was a draftsman at Petro Fina (finas drafting department built all irvings stations on contract) and it is an "off the shelf" irving design. there was a gulf station on wellington too just west of here, its still standing, and i think the tavern you are talking about could have been the bucket of blood?

You're right, I must have been mistaken in remembering the station as a BP instead of an Irving; I don't remember the Gulf station at all. I just about fell out of my chair when I saw you mention the bucket of blood. I've heard my mother mention it at various times over the years, but I've never managed to find out where it was.

While we're on the topic of "buckets", my mother's cousin Phillip Kearns was known to all and sundry as Bucket. My mon doesn't know how he came to obtain this moniker, and I've asked other contemporaries of his if they know, and no one apparently does. I'm not sure there's anyone alive who knows for sure why he was called Bucket.
