Converter Row.The raw ore was first melted in these gas-fired converters, then transferred to the main furnace in these huge pour pots by giant overhead cranes. You had to be on your toes all the times here.

very cool, is this a historical photo? it looks like slag is pouring into the transport bucket, but i dont see anyone at the site.

They were there, but out of the way while a pour was going on. This is not slag being drained off in this picture, but molten ore. The slag is drawn off at the main furnace. Sadly, much of what you see has been gone for almost 7 years now. The smelting of the copper ore is done elsewhere. It was an awsome sight

If you will look to the right of the converter that's pouring molten ore, you'll see two operators monitoring the pour.
