Incidentally, I was actually *in* Palace Amusements as a first- or second-grader in about 1982, when the place was still operating. I have particularly vivid memories of the fun-house, which was so creepily un-fun -- and even frightening to me at that age -- that it implanted itself in my memory to such a degree that 16 years later, when I read John Barth's short story "Lost in the Funhouse," my first thought was of the Palace Amusements funhouse.
