As I recall, Springsteen grew up in or around Asbury Park ...

"Did you hear the cops busted Madame Marie for tellin' fortunes better than they do?" is a line from a song called "Sandy," written by Springsteen, but recorded by the Hollies with slightly different wording. It also contains the line "this boardwalk life's for me is through; you oughta quit this scene too..."

It wasn't really exploring, more just "checking it out", but yeah, the rock references are cool.We had a nice day at the beach.

I failed to mention that the song is full of references to boardwalks, casinos, and piers, so I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Jersey Shore.

The song's full title is '4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)', which pretty much removes any confusion about where the song is referring to!

Ah, yes, I had forgotten the full title. I think by the time The Hollies recorded it with somewhat modified lyrics they had shortened it to just "Sandy."

Springsteen grew up in Freehold, but spent a good chunk of time during his early adulthood in Asbury Park. See the entire The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle as a reference.

Shoot, Bruce's first album was "Greetings from Asbury Park". 'Nuff said.
