I can remember when there was a trunk in every door along there. That area was HUGELY busy in it s day. You could smell the stench from the Abbatoir depending on the wind. As a 12 year old we used to walk from Verdun and go up Bridge to get to the Cite du Havre entrance for Expo 67. If only I knew then what I know now, hee hee!

I remember that as well. As far as the smell goes, what sticks in my mind is the smell of the manure that was piled on the rail flatcars on the stockyard side of the street (the same side the fruit warehouse is on). I used to live in the Village on Forfar Street until Drapeau expropriated the houses and we were forced to move in 1963. If you're ever in that area, I'd very much appreciate it if you could take a picture of the war memorial that is still on Canada Packer's land. It's on the corner of Mill and Wellington, I believe it's between two flagpoles, just inside the fence. I haven't seen it in decades, and I'd love to see it again.
