7 / 23   Mine shaft

Description
Here's another view of the shaft, showing the wooden covering and pipes. The mines in the Orizaba area tended to have an overabundance of water, and these pipes were necessary to pump out the excess water and keep the mine dry. The pipe on the right most likely dates from the original operations, while the one on the left looks to be from a more recent attempted revival. The shaft is a very steep vertical incline and was deep enough that I could not see the bottom. The latter looks to be original vintage and I would not advise using it.
