I flew in and out of this place starting when I was 4 every spring break to go visit my grandparents in Beaumont. I always remember the airport not being very busy whenever I was there, and it was small enough that for those flights to Beaumont, I could walk out of the building onto the tarmac to the twin prop plane. I always remember being fascinated by how big the place seemed at the time. Because of it's location right in the middle of town, planes were constantly buzzing directly over my family's home in NW Austin. It annoyed the hell out of my parents, but I always kind of liked it. Fond memories of this place.

  Thanks folks!

@corbenator - Yeah, I lived in Austin from about 1973-1990; I have a soft place in my heart for this old icon too.

Gorgeous photo. I plan on heading out to the old place sometime this summer.

I don't know about demolished...I was there 3 or 4 years ago and it was still there...
