This is a painting of a traditional Korean marriage. Before Japanese imperialism, a girl would get married around the age of 16, to a boy who was about ten years younger than her. She would then raise him as her own until he was old enough to impregnate her.

That is pretty damn weird. Would the female be working in a traditional Korean marriage? If not, where would the income come from until the husband is old enough to earn money?
