Hm.. yeah, makes sense that they would've built something like this for Expo.

  From http://www2.ville....planetarium_a.html

PRESENTED BY THE POLISH-CANADIAN COMMUNITY
ON THE OCCASION
OF THE CANADIAN CONFEDERATION CENTENNIAL
AND THE MILLENNIUM OF CHRISTIAN POLAND

I guess that dates the photo to recently after the planetarium's construction?

Yep...Copernicus was on his way to the photo shoot but got stuck somewhere and missed it by little !

Maybe he stopped for a beer?

What was the purpose of that low Dow building on the right anyway? Bottling?

And can you even get a Black Label anymore? That was not a bad beer as I remember.

I just noticed what looks like a skywalk connecting the two buildings.

And yeah.. you can still buy Black Label, in 40oz bottles too!

the low buildings foundation was there until quite recently, it had about 10 loading docks facing notre dame

Copernicus appeared in front of the Planetarium at the end of the "Terre des hommes" exhibits. It was a gift to Montreal for Expo 67 and it was then sitting in front of the pavillion.

This would have been taken in 1966 most probably, in time for Expo 67.

... est-ce que je suis la seule à remarquer le char de nain entre la voiture bleue et la voiture brune/orange un peu vers la droite?
Posted by nel58 3/12/2008 1:45 AM | remove
C'est pas une auto de nain,ce sont les autres qui sont des autos de géants !...mini-austin ? 4L ? Anglia ? Fiat ? Les deux mecs devant aussi ont l'air de se poser la question !

  J'adore les petite autos !

The foundations and the basement of the building were still there in 2000. Utility service tunnel was still leading to it , and a family was living there, steeling electricity from the school. There were there until the completely remove thoses foundation to build the "pavillon B"

this at least September 1966... blue car about dead center of the planetarium is a 67 GM A-body (probably a Chevelle/Malibu)
Posted by Emperor Wang 3/14/2008 12:08 AM | remove
Those cars are each and all awesome, just for the fact you can tell them apart. C'mon Sam! Show us your stuff...
Posted by mewthree 3/14/2008 12:14 AM | remove
But not one of them has hydrolics. =(

I'm really diggin' that monkey-shit brown bus going east on Notre-Dame. Must've been some high pressure fluids on that baby.

left to right, just for Wang:

65-66 Ford Falcon, VW Beetle, GM A-body (Chevelle/Malibu by the look of it), Big Dodge/Plymouth sedan, Buick coupe, Mini, end cars are two big Chryslers, and the last one, no idea.

Dude rules the car identification department. What else can I say?
Posted by Charlie_Dunver 4/28/2008 3:45 AM | remove
Hard to believe but yes the buses were once brown here. Cant remember what year they switched to blue, probably 66-67 for the Metro? in '70 for the start of the MUC?
Posted by mewthree 4/28/2008 6:21 PM | remove
  Blue paint was probably cheaper.
