All the old ventilation makes me think this room might have once housed the radio receivers. 1940s/1950s era radio receivers would have used a lot of vacuum tubes, which tend to heat up, though it would have been unusual to have those windows in such a room.

The glass table suggest it's a landscape model. I would sure be interested in a picture of that. Somebody started to refurbish this building in the late 70's early 80's looking at the HVAC. No way more modern OSHA guidelines were being followed in this process.
