Anyone one know the displacment ? (Engine Size in CC or L) ?? Could this thing run the hospital - or just emergency lighting / critical systems ??
I could easily belive it could power a small country - it's h00j!!! :)

It's not big enough to run the entire complex,probably just provided power to run the emergency lighting, and keep critical systems going till the primary power could be restored. Would love to hear it run.

It's an EMD (GM) 645 diesel. 645 cubic inches per cylinder. Non turbo, might have had a roots blower. 2000 hp @ 950 rpm. Same engine is used in the GM-EMD GP38 locomotive

Actually, my uncle worked for CN rail for years. I've seen the 645 engine up close lot's of times. This one is missing several rocker covers and does not have a turbo on it. The 16 cylinder V configured 645A engine (non turbo) from EMD is rated at 2000 hp @ 950 RPM. If you don't believe me Techno Ted, look it up on google.

Would it not depend on the type of train ? Direct drive sure it would be slow.. But what about diesel / electric ?

O yeah, I was thinking direct drive but most trains are D/E right? 900 RPM should be good to run a D/E train.

It is kind of old, Its not much bigger then the one that powers the emergency facilitys at my building, and that one has a hard time doing that ! I would say its about 1 megawatt..
We just installed a nice 250 kilowatt unit which is about 1/8th that size, the newer the generators the smaller they get !

Seen the one at Didcot power station in Oxfordshire Turbo? One of the most powerful in the UK so I was told.
