Note the animal tracks. They had claws/talons, so I think it was either a raccoon or mountain lion. Mountain lions often frequent the dry reservoir beds looking for deer stuck in the mud.

Those are too small for mountain lions, it's probably a raccoon.

yeah, those are definitely racoon tracks. I know 'em when I see 'em. grew up on a farm.
