Transmission input shafts, or "first motion" shafts; the clutch's driven plate would be located in the grooved bits at bottom, and the gear at top would engage the layshaft in the tranny. Note the synchro assemblies at very top. And now you know...

Oh, I ALWAYS note the synchro assemblies, if you know what I mean.... But I'll leave it to you to engage the layshaft in the tranny.
