funny to think esso was in one of the low buildings meanwhile belgian lightweight in the canadian market FINA had its offices on PVM 1-17

It's kinda sad how the PVM esplanade remains windblown and bleak no matter what they do with it. One of the original designs had it connect it to Ste-Catherine with a pedestrian ramp. That might've worked out better? Or an extra ped tunnel from the foreground direct to Central Station?

i dont know but i always preferred the old treatment of the 4 entrances to the mall. these whole esplanade things in montreal are always ill conceived. at olympic stadium the entrance from the esplanade is spectacular but the entrance from the metro is like comming in via the basement, the re configuring of the parking garages in the 90s didnt help. same goes for place des arts in the winter

In the 70s, the at least one store in PVM (WH Smith? I can't remember) used to be two-level, with a "back" entrance on the esplanade. More commerce at this level sure couldn't hurt, but who would want to rent space in the middle of such a concrete wasteland?

I say we give Pierre Bourque a million bucks and a year in charge of this place. Then we'd have something people would go out of their way to visit!

i agree as wishy washy pierre was in city affairs he was a great guy for beautifing the city. there also used to be a computerland store in the lobby of 1 pvm, it looked out on the esplanade but had no access

Bourque is good at planting trees, which wouldn`t help much PVM. But Dore was good as readapting urbain lanscapes (such as digging back up the Lachine Canal).

i second that one about the canal maze! and sadly bourque gets the credit for it

Aw c'mon, maZe. Never heard of planters? Just imagine this space all green and leafy, full of pathways and benches scattered about... it would be sooooo sweet.

well the old stair pits are covered with squares of grass today, the biggest problem is that this esplanade doesnt really go anywhere, its not a convienient path of conveyance to other parts of the city

WTF is with the canal, anyway? I'm as happy as the next guy that they opened it to boaters, but I can't remember the last time I saw more than three boats on it in one day. No way is that project paying for itself.

well last summer every time i went biking on a saturday i counted 4 boats at a time in every lock as well as loads of boats, i dont know when you are looking, it does close at 5 pm.

i know its getting traffic because the seaway people are thrilled with the reduced pleasure boat traffic, they get in the way of the ships

Is it just me, or are those stairwells strangely reminiscant of those of the old vespasiennes?

Le Canada à son drapeau actuel depuis 1965.

Quelle personnalité publique est décédée en 1969?
Posted by maZe 9/7/2007 2:27 AM | remove
ouais mais le Canada n'était pas un pays légalement jusqu'en 1982, ce qui expliquait l'usage toujours du Dominion of Canada comme drapeau.
Posted by Blawkowski 9/7/2007 3:12 AM | remove
