  Nice view of Hangman's Beach/Cove

Last time I was there the way to the beach was still washed out from Hurricane Juan (I believe).

Yeah, the easy way has been washed away and still is, but its still possible to get out there.

Any special route or kit needed? I'm planning on going out there in the Autumn so it would be cool to get onto the beach.

Not really, just a good set of hiking shoes will be fine.

  I wear combat boots.

Combat boots are the best to wear, waterproof, steel-toed, and even sometimes fire retardant.

As well as chemical resistant and insulated against electrocution.
Posted by nootz 12/2/2007 4:14 PM | remove
True enough, I should start wearing mine...especially now that it's cold out.
Posted by Blackbird 12/2/2007 9:40 PM | remove
The ones I have are good, but they have a steel toe and liner in the sole; those can make the boots a little cold sometimes.

Yeah, true, depending on what you're doing though, my combat boots don't have the steel toe, just got the plain old infantry boots.
Posted by Blackbird 12/9/2007 1:00 AM | remove
I used mine for all season hiking and working in the garage.

I just wear hiking boots, myself. Combat boots are.. well..

  Skinhead-like? Punk-type? Paramilitant-ish?
Posted by hfx_chris 12/16/2007 5:04 AM | remove
  Ridiculous and overkill? ;o)
Posted by Blackbird 12/16/2007 3:12 PM | remove
No way, I use them for hiking, yard work and in the garage. They are comfortable and effective.

But we each have our preference in footwear.

i have a disposition towards fireboots myself...
Posted by nootz 5/11/2008 4:16 AM | remove
Fireboots are REALLY warm considering they're steel-toed.
Posted by Blackbird 5/11/2008 4:49 PM | remove
But they're really big and not something I'd take for a hike.
Posted by Samurai 5/11/2008 4:54 PM | remove
steel toe and steel sole, kevlar lined as well...
Posted by Blackbird 5/12/2008 7:28 PM | remove
Mine are steel toe and sole, but are made of GoreTex not kevlar.

I don't suppose it's thick enough to stop or slow a bullet, is it?
Posted by Sarnia Boy 5/13/2008 5:26 PM | remove
why would you need to stop a bullet heading for your boot in Nova Scotia though?
Posted by Blackbird 5/13/2008 8:06 PM | remove
Just one of those things you ask about purely out of curiosity.
Posted by Samurai 5/13/2008 8:37 PM | remove
the kevlar hasn't stopped bullets that I know of, but it has stopped an ATV's footpeg from going through my leg when I wrecked my Honda.

  Fair enough.
