  Definitely looks like a remodel job. Raise an old house and put it on a first floor. I know in Belize City they build houses like this so that when the kids get older thry can enclose the lower portion for them.

  I was in Belize City once. I thought the house on stilts thing was on account of the flood risk from ocean storms and the low-lying land. Hmmm.
