I remember the Oshawa Times. Went out of business in the 90s.

Yep! It was back in 94' that the workers at the Oshawa Times went on strike because then owner Thompson Newspapers had announced that over a third of the company would be laid off. As a result of the layoffs, publication of the paper was reduced to 3 times a week. Howeber, not even a month later Thompson News closed the 120+ year old newspaper. Reasons for this are still said to be the nearly $2 million lost during the previous 4 years dating back to 1990.
