I'd pretty much cut off my own leg for a good funnel cake. ^_^

Posted by UrbanAdventureClaire 5/22/2008 7:43 PM | remove
it's basically fried dough with powdered sugar on top, and it's shaped like a big squiggly flower (idk how well that describes it)...anyway, it's amazing. wait how the hell do you not know what funnel cake is?!!?!

maybe because I am from northern New York, not Pennsylvania... when we have fried dough, we don't fuck around making it look like anything... it's just a round, flat piece of fried heart attack served with your choice of diabetes initiators.

haha nice...yeah PA reeks of farm shows, flea markets and funnel cake :-) haha..isn't a fried flat piece of dough basically the same thing as a doughnut though, just without the hole?

more or less... regional foods can be fun.
we have things here in northern NY called 'michigans'!

that seems a little out of place...what are they?? another form of heart attack on a plate, i hope? hehe :-)

The things Samurai is describing are known as 'Elephant Ears' at many a state fair.

  Michigans or fried dough?
michigans are a hot dog on a bun with a spicey meat sauce on it, not chili as commonly thought.

Hmmm....been quite some time since I have been to the Michigan state fair. From what I recall though, they were called Elephant Ears there as well.

unfortunately, michigans here have nothing to do with Michigan... allow wiki to wiki its wiki ways on the wonderous world of hot dogs...

wow...aren't elephant ears a pastry, too?

Probably obvious by now, but funnel cakes are so called because they're made by dribbling a stream of batter into hot oil from a funnel. The result is a lacy-looking cake, usually decorated with powdered sugar. They're actually quite tast, although it's been a long time since I last sampled one.

  Oops... meant "tasty."

Funnel cakes aren't a regional thing... I grew up in Missouri and we had them there, and I've seen them in Seattle and in the deserts of California. Mostly you find them at fairs, festivals, carnivals (we had a killer flea market back home that sold them, too). Funnel cake: It's everywhere you want to be!
