Doesn't look like a standard pipe hanger to me. Also, the ghost in the ceiling is squared. I wonder if those are another form of hangers for ductwork or for something heavy? Those are set in the concrete of the ceiling.
The hanger straps my Dad used for ductwork were just flat strips of metal and didn't wrap around the ductwork.

I guess I could go and have a second look, follow the hangers to where they stop and report back! :P Maybe this weekend (10.02.07).:)

The pipe in the background just above the door frame has an asbestos cover

The house itself might not even be there anymore. Although I have a hunch it is. Since I took this photo I learned a bit more about asbestos and indeed that pipe does look like a killer. The one thing people say about asbestos is that if you leave it alone it should leave you alone too. Problem is that once messed with as it was here particles of it will be everywhere on the floor and elsewhere. An added hazard to today's toxic world so go in such places after reading up a bit, considering how often you are around such particulate matter and knowing the risks.

In my Job there is Asbestos everywhere, like you said if you dont bother it, it wont bother you! even if it was previously disturbed it should be fine as long as it has settled. The real one to watch out for is mold spores.

Hehe, any links or more information on that Dimitalus? I've lived with black mold in the corner of my room for 13 years or so and now it's popping up in the new place I'm in as well. Should ventilate more. Oh and you should have seen that one place I was staying in where 9 people were sharing a room in winter and nobody opened the window not to leave the heat out. Could barely see the walls from the mold.

What I meant was Asbestos is safer then Black mold :P

I got that and was curious if your work background gave you more info on how and why. I can't do anything about the past but as said it's coming up in the new place I live in and I was also considering that if it's not too much (barely some gray spots here and there) and I don't bother it won't be too much of a problem.

As long as you are not disturbing the mold it shouldn't be an issue, but once you start noticing a strange smell from the mold almost like "Wet basement" then it should be cleaned, i usually use bleach. And with Asbestos I work on Naval Ships, they are full of Asbestos

Doing my own research doesn't make it seem so horrible as lung cancer and other cancer forms that asthma creates: http://www.cdc.gov/mold/stachy.htm#Q1

mainly just Stachybotrys chartarum, it's only really bad if you are sensitive to mold, which most are but few are not, I am not so it doesn't bother me. If you live with mold and you are not seeing negative effects i wouldnt worry. I also live in a 200 year old farm house where it has Asbestos insulation and Black Mold :P
