There is an awful lot of decent patch cable here too.

Exactly. Although I would be suspicious if nostra suddenly announced he was coming to the Ottawa meet and INSISTED we visit this place after dinner :)
I can detour past this place daily on my way home when demo starts and ask someone on site if I can take some of that stuff (legally). Chances are they will just toss it.

nah, i wouldnt take it, i did get permission to salvage some stuff at a plant here in montreal. If i ever take anything i always ask permission, chances are they say yes. Demo companies will salvage the bigger stuff but recycling smaller things would cost them more than they are worth.

True. But it's sad to see all these bathroom fixtures just getting wrecked in the demo, especially when they can be donated to places like Habitat for Humanity who can sell them for $30-40.

oh many demo contractors are willing (if time permits) to allow salvage rights on bigger projects, smaller places its economical for them to strip. Things like flourescent light fixtures, H frames, 110 blocks, bixes, bathroom fixtures are all usually readily available. I know a town near here was replacing a school the old building had a public sale they sold everything from windows to electrical outlets, the money raised was used to stock the library in the new school
