  i have seen artist sketchs that involved 3 towers, the old hyatt was an afterthought built where one of the towers was to be built

  I can see why 3 towers was rejected though. Would have changed Victoria Square and added way too much skyrise slightly away from downtown. Gotta remember that in those days most of the buisnessmen that controlled a lot of stuff were used to doing buisness at ground level, in the local tavern, lol. Also, it may even have interfered with getting the Metro open on time.

  well we also have to remember, place victoria was crown owned at the time, was a last attempt to keep downtown on st james street. didnt work, cibc and royal bank moving to dorcester and peel and dorcester and universtiy respectively caused a major shift. Some say the move started with the sun life assurance company building on dorcester but i disagree. One sign of how montreal was laid out originally is st patricks basilica, it faces the downtown of the day

  Sun Life was one of the Crown Jewels of the entire British Empire when it was built (they used to brag like that then lol). Very hard to ignore it. The "shift' goes a way, back being a gradual thing. Railroads were often a huge indicator. Windsor Station was not built towards old Montreal, and Sun life ended up being its across the square neighbor.

  windsor station and viger station were terminal stations, viger a lot newer to replace the aging dalhousie station, they were built to serve opposite directions, the advent of diesel propulsion allowed cp to consolidate at windsor and have a single coach yard at the glen. Its somthing to think of the stations that were downtown at one time, bonaventure, southern counties, windsor, viger and dalhousie, the canora also had a station where central station is now

  the islands are not there but the dikes that form the outer banks are there, they just have to fill em in still. the piers to the concorde bridge are there too
