in canada they dont have a great rep, but the "no trip" isnt as bad on the federal pioneer panels vs federal pacific

Try putting a 15 amp square d qo or home line breaker inline with a non afci 15 amp federal pioneer and semi slowly touch the hot and neutral togather notice how little of a nick you get in the no 14 solid wire. Now try that with the federal pioneer AND YOU WILL BURN RIGHT THROUGH THE WIRE THE FEDERAL BREAKER WONT TRIP AT ALL. If the main is a square d you will take out the main. I put a federal pioneer 15 amp breaker in an FPE 100 amp panel fed by a GENERAL ELECTRIC METER CENTER next to it ,IT TOOK OUT THE GE 100 AMP BREAKER AND THE 15 AMP FEDERAL PIONEER. I have absolutely NO RESPECT FOR FEDERAL JUNK JUNK JUNK .I use Square d qo or if on a budget Siemens with COPPER BUSS.
Im very happy that the Canadians are finally seeing the light that federal is JUNK ive seen a few things on the net .I want to see FEDERAL PIONEER DISCONTINUED AND GONE FOREVER .I talked to Schneider electric in Canada told the tech guy to LOOK AT THE TRIP CURVES ON FEDERAL STABLOK AND SQUARE D QO HE ADMITTED UNDER HIS BREATH THAT FEDERAL WAS JUNK .He told me he didnt understand why they left the U.S.A. i told him I WAS INVOLVED IN PUTTING THEM OUT OF BUSINESS .When Challenger Westinghouse bought them out 50 PEOPLE INCLUDING ME TOLD ALL THEIR HORROR STORIES AND THANK GOD THEY DECIDED TO SHUT DOWN FEDERAL DO TO LIABILITY REASONS .FEDERAL CHEATED UL. ROT IN HELL FEDERAL PACIFIC I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.

Federal Pioneer in Canada is owned by Schneider, same folks as Square D.

My issue with federal pioneer is the high resistance shit going on on the bus bars. Only holding your breakers in by friction. One thing that always cracked me up, the people who worship Mike Holmes like he has all the answeres, before Eaton was his sponsor his electrician (captain eyebrows) would install stab lok panels exclusively.

my top panels i HATE:
1) federal pioneer: like i said for me its the fact you take a cover off and the breakers fall out of the panel
2) square d homeline: the real low end of the square d world
3) bulldog pushmatic: failing in the ON positions, not reacting to the pushbotton anymore, and those stupid clips that hold the doors on (if you dont realize the screws arent attached to the panel and just clips you can have a wire wrap around them)

  As for panels i like:
1) square D QO
2) Siemens
3) old commander panels with the screwed in breakers

Ive never seen a commander panel in the U.S.A. looks like we agree on favorite panel but the SIEMENS MUST HAVE THE COPPER BUS OPTION ,if its aluminum i wont use it .Homoline is an aluminum bused panel. Are you referring to MIKE HOLT ?
Starting 2020 code cycle you must have a disconnect ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING [METER SOCKET BREAKER COMBO] if you install any of these TELL YOUR CUSTOMER TO BUY AN ALL BRASS PADLOCK so some one doesnt shut it off while they are gone. I saw an EATON cutler hammer br panel that has plated ALL COPPER BUSS the AFCI breakers have a firm grip on a COPPER neutral bar the only problem the magnetic trip is set at 650 amps qo in set at 150/200 amps. WARNING if your installing a qo panel THE NEUTRAL STRIP IS ALUMINUM BUY AFCI BREAKERS WITH A PIGTAIL THAT LUGS UNDER A SCREW ON THE NEUTRAL BAR. Plugging om to aluminum is against my religion.
Have you ever seen a ZINSCO panel???
Im familiar with bulldog they got bought out by I-T-E The doors on those were very narrow on the 100 amp version the 200 amp panels were like two 100a panels in one. In the U.S.A. most of the panels have doors except fore side cars square d 8/16 circuit .We put those in an apartment building to replace FPE the inspector made us put on covers WITH A DOOR .In Canada i dont see to many doors on residential service panels I DONT GET THAT.

I mean Mike Holmes (holmes on homes tv show) his "all knowing" electrician always used stab lok until the show started being sponsored by Eaton.

Zinsco i have yet to see up here. The Bulldog panels were very common in gas stations. The first place i saw a bulldog panel was actually in the 2 gas stations i worked at when i was younger. They were horrible at night when you had to turn on the outside lights because you often had a hard time getting them to stay on.

One thing you seen in electrical forums a lot, is why in canada you see a lot of panels installed upside down or sideways. Its because of the fact canadian panels have that aditional cover over the main lugs and breaker. You cant run cables in the top of the panel, so when doing a retrofit its easier to mount the panel sideways or upside down.

Commanders, in quebec, are very common in housing that was converted to electric heat in the early 80s.

Personally im not an electrician but i manage facilities at work, so sorta jack of all trades master of none

I install panels upside down if the feed is in the bottom that keeps the cables out of the way .Only once at work did i install a panel sideways with very special permission from the inspector, ive seen older panels mounted sideways in older situations .Ive seen the special cover your talking about that will probably change with the MAIN DISCONNECT OUTSIDE AT THE METER. I just ran 70 feet of no 3 plus an 8 to a subpanel in my friends attached garage .I have bonding bushings at both panels plus the wire trough .The no 3 is red white and blue the 8 green .Im running 3/4 home runs to 3 1/8 deep 11b boxes [having to special order the 11 b garvin covers] one run will have three circuits the next two circuits , breakers will have handle ties on multiwire circuits all 1900 boxes will be 2 1/8 deep. Im doing this in case this guy adds a car lift not to mention a 50 amp welding outlet under the subpanel in this huge garage, it measures 73 feet across. All my branch circuits will be red white blue , my electrical installations are very colorful .As far as using circuit breakers as switches IS AGAINST MY RELIGION .Il put a bank of switches by the panel when he does the lighting.

I made a typo my 11b boxes are 2 1/8 deep. You should check out Siemens 15 & 20 amp sp breakers they are really thin in the middle thinner than homeline , they look really junky now.
