I well remember that sign flashing on and off in the night... I could see it from the street outside of our house in Goose Village. The Five Roses part stayed lit up, but the words "Farine" and "Flour" were alternately turned on and off. The word "Flour" must have been removed to conform with the French-only sign laws.

When I was young (around 10years ago) I remember the word 'Flour' was still there. And it still works to day, the words flash with a little delay between each other.

Interesting that it was there that late.... I would have thought that the English would have been removed long before that. Wonder if someone complained to the tongue troopers... ;)

adm had it as a second choice as the seway authority quashed the plans to open a grain elevator in kahnawake.

Yeah, I don't see Ogilvie closing anytime soon, it's still a very profitable company, they produce something like 50% of all the flour consumed in Eastern Canada and the north-east of the US.

and now owned by adm (supermarket to the world) they are sticking around. they intended to close ogilvie about 5 years ago when they were going to build a mill in kahnawake near survival school the feds quashed it by not allowing seaway access
