Barges were then loaded with 2,000 50 lb. cases by a rolling conveyor system, and company tugboats would pull them into San Francisco Bay where they would then be loaded onto ships headed for the Pacific. 2 million lbs. of dynamite were transported in the Point's history from both this pier and the Southern Pacific rail line throughout the West for use in mining, railroad-building, and road construction.
