It looks like stamps for identifying colors. I also see walnut brown, harvest brown, star white, and red maple.

They were for different styles of roofing shingle. They probably indicated the color and style of the sand/gravel used to coat the tar shingles.

It actually Star White. They actually look close to a really light grey (white stones in black tar).
