Is the plural for fish really fishes? Isn't it just 'fish' of the credit?

... Why do they have a sign about the species of the credit river all the way out in elizabethville ?? The credit river system is in Peel region and starts around orangeville emptying into lake ontario in mississauga. Ive seen signs like this before at Port Credit and riverwood park.

otonabee is correct. When you are using the plural to talk about one species of fish, it is fish. When talking about multiple species, it is proper to use fishes. So, you'd have a school of fish, but an ocean full of fishes.
