this is the road in and out of New Idria... from the Highway, it is 100 miles round trip. Be sure to load up with gas, bring plenty of water, food, etc.... it's an extremely remote area.

Yeah, meng, the mines were the apple of my eye. That's what I was hoping to see if I had made it out there with ya.

And to think the island I live on is only 23 miles long, with a total of 26 square miles of land surface...

tunnelbug, well we have a reason to go back... let's visit the mines!
yep the road was about 47 miles each way from the freeway. I took "little panoche rd" (25 miles) to "new idria rd" (22 miles). total of 47. round trip that makes almost 100!

Truly fantastic location. I love driving far (in the past few months I've driven from San Francisco to San Deigo and back, then from San Francisco to Mammoth Lakes and back), so this isn't too long of a journey. Thank God for having a navigation system in the car.
