Description
Baleze's infamous active building.

It looks like there was a rail spur down here at one time. Must've been, if they made the cars next door.

there used to be abandoned sand tankers wagon there. Marc-André died in one of those in 1994.

  Heh? Who was Marc-André, SPEK?
Posted by Charlie_Dunver 4/19/2006 2:38 AM | remove
are you talking about train cars, Spek?

For long time there was a "sand" car there with SAIKO on it.

How did he die?

What has become of my TA-wall DB page !? I had the picture of the memorial in there. He died by going inside the car, the under trap under the car opened and he slowly sinked into de sand. Charlie I had all the old graf (first coat of 1994) in a DB page called TA-Wall but I can't find it on uer anymore..?

Good question, SPEK. I have no clue what happened to that location. You or Charlie really should make a new one. I'll make sure it stays up this time.

Sad story too.

cool idea, I have a bunch of assorted pics of the "sand cars", when all the scaffolding was under the expressway, and tons of "TA Wall"
pics. If you want to start a new location, Spek, I would be happy to contribute to it.

well the TA wall location is gone?!
Posted by Mutt 4/30/2006 6:34 PM | remove
It was deleted a long time ago as it was not classed as a "UER location", and with the new crop of mods it still wouldnt be.

I would be a good idea to notice the owner of a location and everyone who added a galery in it when it's in queue to be deleted. Simple question of respect.

there is so much location in the Ontario DB that looking at it so tell yourself "why the !@#$%?& this empty garage is in our DB" I can't see why the TA-wall was or should have been erased. I found the TA wall on my way going to the Redpath a decade ago. I can flood the Quebec DB with boring places like those found In ON but I'll skip my turn.

I'll already posted about it: http://www.uer.ca/forum_showthread.asp?fid=1&threadid=27799&currpage=1&pp#post6

but it looks like my next door boarded appartment, bungalow, garage, restaurent, video club and car wash can be a DB.

Save your breath guys, it wasnt me that deleted it. Locations are not "owned" by someone other than the owner of the property itself.

Mutt's not a whole lotta fun, is he? I totally agree with SPEK. While the TA Wall is a pretty marginal location as far as UER goes, it's still a billion times more interesting than than those dozens of active cemeteries the LDB contains.

And Blawkowski: That is an excellent idea. I usually send a PM when I toss a location in the trash, but it's a time consuming operation that doesn't always get done. I'll petition Av to implement an automatic notification feature. I'm a big fan of courtesy myself.

  Thanks MapMan!

Back on subject: the picture up there over the comments shows an almost 100% original building, everything date of the construction: the walls, the brick, the metal windows, the rusty roof, the concrete deck and the train doors. The building is original and decaying but it's still in use. There is not so many like this.

Its a shame that industrial building are not made this way any more. Modern buildings are nothing more than tin shacks on a concrete base. They wont last as long as these older types. I think thats why I enjoy wandering through places like this.

Well the old loading docks like this one are history. It s been about 10 years since the track was pulled up and wouldnt know they were ever there by this photo. Whenever you are nearby take a good look at down there, then up past the TA wall and imagine trains going up and down. That was as steep an incline as there ever was!
Posted by nostra-YOUPPI! 5/2/2006 12:20 PM | remove
imagine boxcars loaded with heavy wet tobacco leaves on that incline!
today since industrial property has negative growth in terms of value its best to build on the cheap and replace as needed, so many of these structures are really just an enclosure around a "machine" if you look at modern plants they build just enough to cover the equipment. Look at labatt's brewery in lasalle, the older part (where the brewhouse is) is all brick and well built, the new parts where the bottleing lines are are just corrugated steel structures. same goes for the general foods plant in lasalle, never will you see a beautiful brick building like that, especially the towers today that would be built on the cheap.
Posted by Charlie_Dunver 5/2/2006 3:21 PM | remove
yea, and abandonements in the future? Aint gonna happen because the cheap buildings won't sit around waiting for so long and even if they did there would be nothing worth seeing and they would be destroyed in no time

i look at the buildings around where i used to work in lachine 20 year old buidings being leveled was nothing out of the ordinary

You know it hits me now that I have a picture somewhere of something in some grass near Geo Reed that could be called a "memorial" Three little wooden crosses with names on them if I recall properly.
