next time a freighter goes through at night, try to get a look into the control room... instead of gauges and dials, it's all digital (or at least the couple that I have seen were [CP Rail])

That's great - all I can see is an engineer getting a "blue screen of doom" in the middle of a run and not being able to stop for a school bus load of kids stuck on the tracks... Blame Gates. :P

So after refitting does Windows say "Found new hardware and attempting to locate software for it" when they start the train forthe first time? "Found new hardware; generic electric direct drive system"
Speaking of Genesis; I was talking to one of my retirees today who usedto work for Metro North, they had them.

What if you hit the brake lever/button and nothing happens? CTRL ALT DEL; "BRAKES is not responding it may be busy; you can wait to see if BRAKES responds or you can press CTROL ALT DEL again to restart your train"

The "Darwin Awards" forum had a thread about "Brittish Submarines Have Windows". The posts were very much like these!

What does AMT stand for on the handset?

AMT is just an abbreviation of Amtrak...not an official one though; their AAR mark is AMTK.

I would of brought a 12v battery with me to power up that radio and see if I could call anyone or even pick up any transmissions.

Funnily enough, the local Montreal commuter train transport agency goes by the same initials. http://www.amt.qc.ca/english/welcome.asp

Shawnerr: Its a Motorola Railroad Spectra which if I remember right, Amtrak has setup to run on 72V. And plus, I already hear Amtrak and the other railroads on my scanner :)

Agent Skelly: Yeah, I read somewhere that today that pretty much all locomotives are operating on the 72vDC system. I believe this specific radio has 12vDC, 36vDC or 72vDC modes. The 12vDC mode is usually used in trucks or on the repair bench. But yeah, you can just hear the railroads on a scanner. Scanners are awesome! :)
