I think it was a dud, since the lever had been pulled and then put back on. However, there was enough weight to the can that it probably still had its active components. I didn't fiddle with it very much.

well it says SMK SCR, which probably means SMoKe SCReen. Probably not too dangerous.

This is indeed a smoke grenade. It is used, as the marks on the top and handle will attest. The only real danger here is that they doo get hot, and can start fires. However, this one is now inert, and can be examined with safety.

If it was a full-on spent round, I would've taken it. But if there was a risk it was a still possibly active dud...It would've stayed behind.

It's already been used, not a dud, you can see the burn marks around the neck and lever. Besides, duds usually have the pin put back in, the pin is missing here.

I got a few M18's in my paintball gear bag for big games, Violet smoke. The burn for about 60 to 90 seconds. Very fun to play with.
