Even taking the pins out and trying to pry the door off failed to work - this is an important lesson to UErs! Be sure to come prepared and make certain to put things in doorways before the door shuts behind you. We've never run into a problem like this before, and we were always careful before, but this time, our luck ran out.

Yeah , fire doors are heavy; even without the pins, the weight of the door would still require some leverage from the hinge side. I'm guessing this door would swing on the hinges even with the pins for at least one or two cycles before falling down.
