it's an sieve screen, often used in grain crusher and in this case malt and grain sieve. the balls do the same job as your hands moving and pushing the mixture in the sieve. We had the same thing lying around in the Dow Brewey, Montreal Canada.

There appears to be 3 screens here. There were 5 in a set. These are from a Buehler Mill. I rebuilt this mill around 1993, and re-screened these very sieves many times. M.S. -Brewhouse Maintenance Manager Lone Star Brewing Co. 1986-1996
