Battery room - this rack would have had three rows of lead-acid batteries in jars, all connected in series. The horizontal wire in back and the vertical one at right were the two ends of the string. Probably 120 volts (DC) at thousands of amps. The bottle with the hose at the far end probably contained distilled water or acid for mattery maintenance.
