Those funny looking apertures in the tower are bullet-proof windows with gun-ports below. These were serious check-points during WWII (the big one).

Two of the three guard shacks have been repaired. The repaired ones are used occasionally for meeting by individuals at the plants. The unrepaired building remains in the original structural shape: It has asbestos covering a pipe inside and lead paint. The top of the tower is accessible from the bottom by a metal ladder, but is just big enough for a person to fit through. The building has three restrooms: one in the town, on on the back side of the building, and two around the middle. The two in the middle are separated, one for whites, the other for blacks (seriously.) There is a window opening leading between the tower area and the central room, but no door. The building is currently owned by a church who isn't sure if they're going to fix it up or not; if they do not, I'm attempting to acquire it from them (I've been trying over a year...) The building has had the windows boarded shut and the doors are metal and locked. The DOT has the road it's by labeled for military use and will be constructing a fence in front of the building.
