see hockey is a game normally involveing sticks and helmets as well as a limited number of people on the ice consisting of forwards defencemen and even goalies. a necessary component of the game we call hockey, nets , are conspicuous by thier absence in this picture. also normally when hockey is played the general public is normally in the stands and not on the ice like in this picture. so im guessing the bulldogs were not playing this day and the public was invited to a thing called a "free skate"

Also, that would be a wicked case of "too many players on the ice".

What is the seating capacity here? Over the years there was talk of an NHL team in Hamilton but apparently Harold Ballard stopped any talk of that and then, well, the "small market" teams in Canada went thataway!

18000 is a LOT bigger than the civic center in ottawa where the senators started out

I'd like to see a team here in Hamilton... but then, I kind of think it would be dumb. That would be 3 NHL teams within about 2 hours of each other (Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo). Nah.

lets use baseball as an example: new york once had 3 teams the giants, dodgers and yankees, now 2 the mets and yankees, boston had 2 teams, braves and red sox, detroit and cleveland are very close market wise, chicago has 2 teams, san francisco area 2 teams, los angeles 2 teams

hamilton is too close to the toronto and buffalo markets. just like cleveland, they built an NHL standard arena and well it will never see the NHL because of the pesky illich family

It's all about television revenues. The idiocy behind it is the belief that the Hamilton fans would start watching their own team, like they watch the Leafs as it is.......LOLOL!
