There's an active room of rackmounted servers about 30 feet from the fire/water alarm seen here. I hear that it's used by other active parts of the Presidio. Spooked us out when we first found it though - romantic thoughts of secret military operations in otherwise disused buildings, etc.

I wonder if those servers are located behind the that is labeled "Unless you know what you are doing, STAY OUT!!!".

No. If you're facing the "stay out" door, the server room is about 20 feet to your right, on the same side of the hall. There's now a very secure gate/screen door over it.

Makes me wonder why there is a server there... Always was rumors of a nuclear fallout shelter there for military personnel... Wonder if it is still considered 'active'?

There are active buildings nearby, including a printing press and a Jewish Community Center. This likely serves those and maybe other Presidio buildings.

Did the place still have power?

Yes it does in certain areas. It amazes me every time I go there what is still there. Last time, Shawna went with me and she tripped out on all the old x-ray equipment (she was an x-ray tech before being a computer weenie).

I think its kinda weird to leave the power on in a building nobody uses. Furthermore, they know vandals are trashing the place, but they still put active servers in the basement of the place. how old is the x-ray equipment if you guessed?

Shawna says it is about 20-30 years old.

My understanding is that the servers are AT&T equipment of some sort, phone switch for the complex I would guess.
